Mama June Shannon’s older sister Joanne “Doe Doe” Shannon is nothing but “proud” of her niece Alana “Honey Boo Boo” Thompson, who was recently featured in Teen Vogue.

The 15-year-old reality star was the subject of a Teen Vogue feature published Wednesday where she opened up about her personal life and her decision to let go of her image as that “boisterous little girl” that everyone came to know as Honey Boo Boo because of her previous reality shows.

In her cover story, entitled “Her Name Is Not Honey Boo Boo,” Thompson made it clear that she’s embracing her teenage years with her real identity. “My mama did not name me Honey Boo Boo. My name is Alana,” she said, before vowing “to be the best I can be” and to “try my hardest” to achieve her dreams in life.

After Thompson’s story and photoshoot went live on the publication’s website, Doe Doe, 56, quickly reacted to her niece’s tell-all. She shared a screenshot of the young reality TV star laughing on the set of the photoshoot she did for Teen Vogue on Instagram and wrote a heartwarming message for Thompson.

“So proud of this amazing young lady I get to call my niece. She’s smart, sassy, loving and fashionable,” Mama June’s sister wrote in the caption before adding that Alana is “beautiful inside and out.”

Doe Doe, who also appears on “Mama June: From Not to Hot” from time to time, also encouraged her followers on the photo-sharing platform to check out Thompson’s cover story.

A number of fans gave positive comments about Thompson’s interview on Doe Doe’s post. Some left congratulatory messages and praised the young We TV star for doing well despite the challenges she faced in the past years due to Mama June’s arrest and drug addiction issues.

“I just read the story and saw all the photos. Alana did an amazing job and looks so pretty,” one wrote.

“She deserves this after having a rough couple of years! Good for her,” another added.

“She learned a lot from you! Sweet, caring, and giving. [You] have been there for those girls…,” a third user commented, referring to the times when Doe Doe stepped up for Alana and her sister Lauryn “Pumpkin” Shannon, 21, when Mama June was away.

Meanwhile, Alana also addressed body shamers in the interview she did with Teen Vogue. According to the former “Toddlers & Tiaras” star, she’ll never understand how some people would find the need to comment on others’ weight and figure.

“Just because I got a little bit of extra meat on my bones, you want to hate me? I’ll never get body shaming,” she said. “Everybody’s all about body positivity, body positivity, until they see a body they don’t like… I don’t understand why [they] think this way.”
