Does Kate Middleton deserve the new title she just received from Queen Elizabeth II? Royal fans have mixed opinions.

Last month, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge celebrated their eighth wedding anniversary. To celebrate the occasion, Queen Elizabeth II appointed Middleton the Dame Grand Cross of the Royal Victorian Order.

Middleton’s new rank was considered “extremely prestigious” as it is the highest rank a sovereign can bestow upon someone for their personal services to the sovereign. One netizen asked on Quora what Middleton did to receive such honor.

“Duchess Catherine received the order for assisting the Queen with her various projects, as well as services rendered to the sovereign,” Marc Quintans responded.

“The Duchess of Cambridge is doing all the things expected of her by the Queen,” Frances Macaulay, a property manager and bookkeeper, commented.

“In this instance, it was to recognise Catherine representing her on many occasions at official events,” Nigel Boon, retired vicar, commented.

Meanwhile, according to Elizabeth Davies, who has a degree in history from the University of Liverpool, Middleton gave up her private life when she joined the royal family. This wasn’t easy as she has been followed by people who criticize her “every move, non move, appearance, or non appearance, not to mention the sate of her family relationships and clothes choices.”

Also, Middleton possibly lives in fear for her family’s safety. She also has a lifetime of public ceremonial ahead of her.

Others believe that the honor is something that should be left to the Queen’s discretion. Scott White, a longtime follower of the royal family, said that the Royal Victorian Order is a “personal gift and she does not have to justify giving this award to anyone.”

White added that Middleton may have received the title as recognition for the hard work she has been doing for the royal family and for her role as the future queen consort.

There were speculations that Middleton’s new title was just a cover-up as her marriage with Prince William was reportedly on the rocks due to his alleged infidelity. One netizen claimed that it could have been Middleton’s consolation prize after Prince William cheated on her.

Middleton still holds her HRH title and all the other previous titles given to her. She will be given a greater honor when Prince William takes over the throne as she is set to be the queen consort.
