Former President Donald Trump and his wife Melania may not be living together in his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida, a forthcoming book by American journalist Michael Wolff says.

In Wolff’s forthcoming book “Landslide: The Final Days of the Trump Presidency,” the journalist questioned whether Melania, who has been married to the former president since 2005, still lives with her husband at the Mar-a-Lago resort since leaving the White House.

"For four years in the White House, it was never quite clear how much time she was spending at the White House or in a house in Maryland where she had settled her parents," Wolff writes, according to an excerpt published by the Times of London on Monday. "Aides were careful not to closely inquire or openly wonder. Here too, in Mar-a-Lago, it was unclear."

The book also revealed that the former president and the former first lady were often seen eating alone at a “roped-off table” in the center of the resort’s patio restaurant and likened their situation to “zoo animals.”

“[The Trumps are] looked at, somewhat, like zoo animals. No, no, that's not right. They are like a newly married couple: every night is a wedding at which they spend their dinner greeting friends and wellwishers," Wolff writes.

Melania Trump reportedly has her own official office but she’s stayed away from the limelight. A source close to the Trumps revealed that the former first lady had rarely been seen mingling with people in the Florida club.

"She's not a presence at Mar-a-Lago at all. She's not mingling with people and rarely interacts with her husband's staff," the unnamed person told CNN in April.

Melania Trump recently fueled divorce rumors as she was missing from Trump’s 75th birthday celebration at the Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, New Jersey.

Trump’s birthday party guest lists included Donald Jr.’s girlfriend Kimberly Guilfoyle, former NFL star Herschel Walker, Indiana congressman Jim Banks and Colorado congressman Lauren Boebert, as reported by SheKnows.

Melania had been the subject of headlines at the start of Trump's term after it was reported that the government spent $27 million to protect the Trump Tower in New York where she stayed with her son even after Trump moved into the White House.
