Does Melania Trump Drink Alcohol? Why FLOTUS Probably Won’t Try Slovenia’s ‘First Lady’ Wine

Melania Trump’s birthplace, Slovenia, recently launched a collection of food and drink dubbed “First Lady” so consumers can eat and drink like the first lady. And while the selection includes decidedly un-Melania Trump-like fare such as chocolates and salami, it also includes wine — which means it's likely the former model and jewelry designer will be imbibing "First Lady" anytime soon.

Trump is not a drinker, a trait she shares with her husband, President Donald Trump, as the Washington Post pointed out in a piece published last year. The president abstains from alcohol, a decision tied to his older brother, Fred Trump’s, battle with alcoholism. He doesn't drink, but he does give his name to a few alcoholic beverage brands, like Donald Trump Super Premium Vodka.

Even before meeting her now-husband, Melania Trump told DuJour she was never much of a drinker and was more serious about pursuing her career in the U.S., claiming she "never drank and never smoked." The decision apparently came from her years navigating an industry rife with parties, drugs and booze.

“You need to be a strong person,” Trump said about modeling. “The agents, they invite you, ‘Oh, let’s go for a weekend here or there.’ Some girls go for it. I knew exactly how the industry worked. I never went into that. I know when they go to parties, there are drugs, there’s alcohol. It doesn’t bring you anywhere.”

In that interview Trump also revealed, to the enjoyment of many, that she did not drink Starbucks. “I drink coffee, but I don’t drink Starbucks,” she said.

One beverage the first lady does enjoy? Diet Coke — but from the glass bottle, she once told New York Magazine.

That said, while Trump might not be placing mass orders of “First Lady” wine (for herself, at least), the wines are seeing tremendous success in Slovenia. The first 300 bottles of the FLOTUS-inspired wine sold out in three days at Sevnica Castle in Slovenia, Decanter reported.
