A new update for the world's first-ever dog-themed meme coin is anticipated to roll out this month, promising improved wallet protection and a cheaper Core Wallet.
The upcoming update, dubbed Dogecoin version 1.46.6, is apparently happening this month, according to a Twitter user who goes by the name Doge Whisperer. In a tweet, the account shared the rollout schedule of the update alongside a GitHub link to Dogecoin's source code repository.
The tweet also acknowledged Patrick Lodder, the author of the update's release plan, and praised the DOGE development team for a job well done. "New #Dogecoin update 1.14.6 release plan written by #Doge core developer @dismahburnah (Patrick Lodder). Way to build team," the tweet read.
Lodder had posted an upgrade schedule earlier on Reddit, where he said the rollout will fix a known Bitcoin vulnerability, offer improved wallet protection, better address message handling and a cheaper Dogecoin Core wallet. The team will also release a Gitian script to enable future updates.
Additionally, the upgrade's release author shared the 'Should Have' targets in the timeline, which includes "an important clean-up" and a dependency update, which Lodder said the development team should do their best to merge. Meanwhile, the 'Could Have' section as outlined in the schedule includes increased system performance, better clean-up modules, secrets entropy and cleanup of compiling.
While there is no specific release date yet, "It is starting to look like we will really be able to do a release of 1.14.6 end of June," Lodder said.
Following the tweet on the update's release, DOGE's price rose 2.01% to $0.08324. But the rally was short-lived. Dogecoin was trading down 4.29% at $0.07993, with a 24-hour volume of $560,994,095, as of 3:57 a.m. ET on Tuesday based on data from CoinMarketCap.
