'Dogs In Pantyhose' Becomes Popular Meme In China, Labeled 'Horrifying' By Some [PHOTOS]
A popular Internet meme in China is causing a stir.
Images of “Dogs in pantyhose” are being shared among users on Weibo, the Chinese equivalent of Twitter. That is, dog owners are actually dressing up their canines in sheer stockings and then posting the photos online.
Apparently the fad was started by "bored" Weibo users, Kotaku reports.
A user named Ulatang, credited with originating the meme, noticed how one of his two golden mutts (pictured above) rolled its eyes after donning the pantyhose. Since uploading it online, the photo has racked up more than 16,000 comments.
The Chinese photo craze, called Gou gou chuan siwa, is considered “horrifying” by some who argue about the ethics of putting pets in hosiery.
Others see it as another installment of memes that embarrass innocent pets like dog shaming and cat cosplay.
