Don Trump Jr. Follows Ivanka, Meets With Jan. 6 Committee; Answers All Their Questions

Donald Trump Jr., the eldest son of the former U.S. president, on Tuesday met with the House Select Committee investigating the events that led to the attack on the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021.

The American businessman voluntarily appeared before the committee via videoconference. The meeting lasted more than three hours. Don Jr. did not assert the Fifth Amendment at any point and answered all the questions, a source familiar with the meeting told CNN. It is, however, unclear what Don Jr. told the House Select Committee.

The interview comes weeks after thousands of texts sent to then-White House chief of staff Mark Meadows during the Capitol riot were revealed. In one of the messages, Don Jr. told Meadows to get then-President Trump to stop the mob from attacking the Capitol.

"He's got to condemn this s*** ASAP. The Capitol Police tweet is not enough," Don Jr. wrote. "We need an Oval Office address. He has to lead now. It has gone too far and gotten out of hand."

Don Jr. was also behind a lengthy message sent Nov. 5 to Meadows wherein he outlined ideas to ensure his father would stay in power by overturning the Electoral College process.

"It's very simple," Trump Jr. wrote in a text. "We have multiple paths. We control them all."

Don Jr. is the latest member of the Trump family to meet with the House Select Committee. In early April, Trump’s daughter Ivanka spent eight hours testifying about the Jan. 6 Capitol riot. Ivanka did not meet the committee in person but instead testified remotely.

Rep. Bennie Thompson, D-MS, said Ivanka was forthcoming in her testimony. The Democrat, who serves as the chairman of the committee, said the testimony helped "fill in a lot of the gaps" about the role that her father played in the riot.

Trump’s son-in-law and former adviser Jared Kushner as well as Don Jr.'s fiancée Kimberly Guilfoyle have also testified before the committee. Guilfolye appeared before the select committee after they subpoenaed her for documents.

Lawmakers said Guilfoyle was a “key organizer” of the rally, adding that she spoke at the rally that took place shortly before the riot and that she played a role in raising funds for the event.
