Donald Trump's presidential campaign had no shortage of outrageous, controversial comments. As Trump prepares to be sworn in as the 45th president of the United States, here’s a look back at some of his most memorable quotes from the campaign and beyond.
“I could stand in the middle of Fifth Avenue and shoot people and I wouldn’t lose voters,” he said during a rally in Sioux City, Iowa, last January.
“Truly weird Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky reminds me of a spoiled brat without a properly functioning brain. He was terrible at debate!” the then-candidate tweeted In August after a Republican debate.
“My Twitter has become so powerful that I can actually make my enemies tell the truth,” he tweeted in 2012 before his presidential aspirations became apparent.
“Look at these hands. I guarantee you there is no problem,” he said, displaying his hands at a Republican debate in May after Marco Rubio commented that they were small.
“Happy New Year to all, including to my many enemies and those who have fought me and lost so badly they just don’t know what to do. Love!” Trump tweeted the morning of Dec. 31.
“I never attacked him on his look, and believe me, there’s plenty of subject matter right there,” he said in another jab at Paul during a GOP debate in September 2015.
“I backed him. You can see how loyal he is. He was begging for my endorsement. I could have said, ‘Mitt, drop to your knees.’ He would have dropped to his knees.” He said of Mitt Romney during a rally in Portland, Maine, in March.
“I will build a great wall — and nobody builds walls better than me, believe me — and I’ll build them very inexpensively. I will build a great, great wall on our southern border and I will make Mexico pay for that wall. Mark my words,” Trump said during the speech in which he announced his candidacy in June 2015.
“As everybody knows, but the haters & losers refuse to acknowledge, I do not wear a wig. My hair may not be perfect but it’s mine,” he tweeted in April 2013.
“We have no country if we have no border. We have some bad hombres here and we’re gonna get ‘em out,” Trump said of his plans to build a wall during the third presidential debate in October 2016.
During the second presidential debate in October 2016, Hillary Clinton said it was “awfully good that someone with the temperament of Donald Trump is not in charge of the law in our country.” “Because you’d be in jail,” he immediately responded.
“You could see there was blood coming out of her eyes, blood coming out of her, whatever,” he said of Fox News’ Megyn Kelly the day after a heated debate exchange in which she asked him about some of the comments he’d made about women.
