The Los Angeles Film Festival came to a close Sunday with the premiere of writer and producer Guillermo del Toro's Don't Be Afraid of the Dark, the Los Angeles Times reports. The film stars actors Guy Pearce, Katie Holmes and 11-year-old Bailee Madison.
Although the original teleplay of the same name did not feature a child, del Toro added young Sally (Madison) to the Gothic tale as a way to introduce his 9-year-old self into the film, Reuters reports.
Don't Be Afraid of the Dark is set to release in theaters August 26 nationwide.
