A 30-year-old man in Delhi, India, was arrested after he allegedly beat his paralyzed son to death while he was drunk over the weekend.

Ajmer Singh was booked for murder in connection to the death of his son, Paramjeet Singh, a quadriplegic who was paralyzed from the neck down, The Indian Express reported.

Ajmer was "in an inebriated state" when he returned to his Wazirpur home in Bharat Nagar Saturday night, Paramjeet’s sister, Rekha, told police, according to The Times of India.

He allegedly used a wooden stick to beat Paramjeet, who had been paralyzed for 14 years and was bedridden, police said.

When Rekha arrived home the next day, she found her sibling injured while lying in bed.

The victim was taken to Deep Chand Bandhu Hospital, but he later succumbed to his injuries.

"On examination, the doctor declared him brought dead," an officer said.

Authorities learned of the incident after receiving information from the hospital regarding Paramjeet's admission shortly before 1:25 p.m. Sunday.

A case under Section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code was registered at the Bharat Nagar police station, which resulted in Ajmer’s arrest.

"Further investigation is in progress," deputy commissioner of north-west police Usha Rangnani said.

Paramjeet’s body was taken to Babu Jagjivan Ram Memorial Hospital for autopsy, according to authorities.

A similar incident happened in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh last July when a man allegedly flung his 8-month-old daughter repeatedly to the ground until she died during a drunken argument with his wife.

Mandawali resident Mohammad Nazim arrived at his in-laws' house in the village of Rahatpur Khurd on July 31 and demanded his daughter to be sent back to him after the child and Nazim's wife, Mahtab Jahan, moved in with their relatives following a quarrel.

The couple’s confrontation escalated into an argument, with Jahan refusing to send her daughter back with her husband. Nazim then allegedly picked up the child and threw her on the ground until she died.

Jahan took her daughter to a private hospital, where doctors pronounced her dead.

Authorities later learned of the incident after Jahan filed a complaint with police that accused Nazim of murder.

Nazim was arrested on Aug. 1 and sent to jail, according to Bijnor police superintendent Dharamveer Singh.
