Drunk Husband Allegedly Chops Off Wife’s Nose After Heated Fight

A drunk man from the Indian state of Karnataka allegedly cut off his wife's nose and attacked his mother-in-law Sunday after the couple got into an argument.
The man, identified as Aminabhavi village resident Umesh Gandgudari, allegedly came to his in-law's home while drunk and assaulted his wife, Geetha, The Hindu reported.
The intoxicated Gandgudari allegedly picked up a sharp weapon during the confrontation and cut off Geetha's nose, a report by The Times of India said.
Geetha's mother, Neelava, attempted to stop Gandgudari, which allegedly prompted him to attack her as well.
Police in the city of Dharwad responded to the home and brought the mother and daughter to a hospital, The Times of India reported. Gandgudari, meanwhile, was reportedly absconding.
The Dharwad rural police have registered a case and launched a search for Gandgudari.
A similar incident that occurred two weeks ago in India's Chhattisgarh state ended differently when two young sisters allegedly murdered their drunk 45-year-old father after he attempted to assault their ailing mother.
Police arrested the two unnamed girls, aged 12 and 17, after they allegedly used an ax to fatally hack their father in their home located in the district of Rajnandgaon on June 29.
The father, identified as Sahdev Netam, had allegedly attempted to beat up his wife, which prompted the two to commit the murder.
Netam had returned home drunk prior to the incident and had become enraged over the food that was being cooked, police said. He allegedly looked for an ax to attack his wife with after she had refused to give him money that had been set aside for household work.
The two girls allegedly picked up the ax and attacked their father, with the younger sister's single blow flooring him. The eldest then allegedly proceeded to hack her father repeatedly until he died.
Upon being interrogated, the girls told police that Netam allegedly abused them and their mother and would even take away their money.
The siblings were arrested under section 302 of the Indian Penal Code and were presented before the Juvenile Justice Board.
