Dwayne Johnson, Emily Blunt’s Superhero Movie Lands At Netflix

Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt's upcoming superhero movie has landed at Netflix.

It was reported earlier that the “Jungle Cruise” stars will be making another movie together. Johnson and Blunt will star in the superhero flick “Ball and Chain.”

The duo’s movie has landed at Netflix. Johnson and the other producers released a statement on Thursday (May 14) on why they chose Netflix for the film.

“One of our main initiatives at Seven Bucks is to continue to find the best platforms to tell stories that entertain and inspire on a global scale,” Johnson told The Hollywood Reporter.

“Netflix is the perfect partner to deliver this epic superhero/romantic comedy experience alongside us, and we’re excited to be back in business with the Netflix team. I’m also excited to not only reunite with dear friend Emily Blunt in front of the camera, but to also collaborate as producing partners as we bring Emily V. Gordon’s script to life.”

Co-producer Dany Garcia said that their partnership with Netflix is rooted in their mutual understanding that they will prioritize their investment in the right stories with universal appeal.

“The incomparable chemistry of our leads and powerful storytelling elements will ignite fans across the globe. We can’t wait to bring this electric story to life,” she added.

Johnson and Blunt will play the characters of a married couple with superpowers. However, they are struggling with their marriage and their superpowers only work when they are together.

Johnson, Garcia and Hiram Garcia will produce the project for Seven Bucks Productions. Kevin Misher will also produce for Misher Films. The two production companies previously collaborated for the wrestling drama “Fighting With My Family.”

Meanwhile, Blunt will make her producing debut for Ledbury Productions. Andy Berman for Misher Films and Scott Lobdell will executive produce.

Aside from the superhero movie, Blunt and Johnson are set to star in “Jungle Cruise,” an upcoming adventure film based on the theme park attraction of the same name. In the movie, Johnson plays Frank, a riverboat captain who will take Blunt, a scientist, and her brother into a jungle with the mission of finding the Tree of Life, which is believed to possess healing powers.

“Jungle Cruise” was set for a July 24 release but it was moved to July 30, 2021 due to the coronavirus pandemic. Meanwhile, “Ball and Chain” could premiere in the fall or summer of 2021 or 2022.
