  • He is the highest paid actor today
  • The Rock earned more than Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Hemsworth

Dwayne Johnson’s net worth is around $320 million. He is one of the most bankable actors today, thanks to a string of movies that made it big in the box office.

Dwayne Johnson, also popularly known as The Rock, was born to a family of pro wrestlers. His father was a former pro wrestler and it inspired him to tread this path once his career in football floundered even before it flourished. Unknown to many, Johnson played football in college but injuries stopped him from realizing his full potential and eventually turning pro.

The Rock was Johnson’s alter ego in the wrestling ring. He actually started out as Rocky Maivia but his popularity skyrocketed after debuting as The Rock in 1997, per Celebrity Net Worth. The Rock was a character villain which the fans have quickly adored. He was crowned WWE heavyweight champion for nine years.

Johnson has since carved a name for himself in the movie industry. He is now regarded as one of the highest paid actors of his generation. Indeed, he has come a long way from his The Rock days.

The 47-year-old actor got his start in Hollywood when he appeared in "The Scorpion King" in 2001. The movie went on to make $165 million and offers started pouring in for Johnson.

According to Forbes, the former WWE star bested Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth and Bradley Cooper as the Highest Paid Actors of 2019. He earned $89.4 million from June 1, 2018 to June 1, 2019. More impressive is that other actors on this list come from the "Avengers" franchise while Johnson earned bulk from "Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle."

Aside from making movies, he makes money from deals with Under Armour and from TV shows such as HBO's "Ballers" and NBC’s "Titan Games." The report added that he receives $700,000 per episode for "Ballers."

What makes The Rock a hit among audiences is that he has a likeable personality off screen. He also makes family friendly movies. Johnson rarely makes a flop movie so producers are willing to pay his high price tag because it would almost guarantee a box office hit.

The "Fast & Furious" actor never forgets where he came from. He started the Dwayne Johnson Foundation in 2006 and donated $1 million to the University of Miami where he played college football. The Rock remains active with Make-A-Wish Foundation’s activities.
