Dancing with the stars-Kate, Pasha
Kate Flannery and Pasha Pashkov, a.k.a. #TeamThatsWhatKateSaid, coul be the first team eliminated from Season 28 of “Dancing with the Stars. Eric McCandless/ABC

The competition has officially begun on Season 28 of “Dancing with the Stars,” but one team will be forced to hang up their dancing shoes and say goodbye to the competition after week two’s performances come to an end.

The second week of competition is set for the 12 teams aiming to win a Mirrorball Trophy, and after week one’s performances, it’s clear the judges aren’t going to be taking it easy on this crop of celebs—but there are still stars on the ABC show who seem more likely to not only make it through the first week, but also be contenders in the finals (provided their fanbases are strong enough to also continue voting them through). With James Van Der Beek and Emma Slater topping the leaderboard, with Hannah Brown and Alan Bersten and Lauren Alaina and Gleb Savchenko just one and two points behind them, all three teams seem safe to dance another week. However, four other teams have fates that same less certain going into the second week of competition.

While scores for week 2 and first-time live viewer votes will be factored in prior to the first elimination and could change things, there are definite signs which seem to suggest one of four couples, in particular, is set to go home after just two dances.

Lamar Odom and Peta Murgatroyd finished night one on the bottom of the judge’s leaderboard, scoring only an 11/30 for their Foxtrot. While the pair admittedly had a difficult dance and do have a massive height difference to try and accommodate, their low score (which is actually the lowest week one overall score in “DWTS” history) and harsh comments from the judges don’t bode well for them. Their potential save going into week two, besides an immense improvement, could be a potentially strong fanbase. Odom is a big name who could be bringing several fans to the show, and Peta’s return is potentially something longtime show fans may want to reward a bit longer, which could keep them from potentially avoiding elimination in week one.

Also not fairing well with the judges was former White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer and partner Lindsay Arnold, a.k.a. #TeamSweetandSpicey, who only scored 12 points for their Salsa. Only one point higher than Lamar, they don’t have a huge edge—and the show’s fanbase is still divided on his casting on the show in the first place. While his loyal fans will likely turn up to vote for him, if he has more detractors who intentionally vote for his competition over him, then his time in the competition is more limited.

Surprisingly, Cheryl Burke and Ray Lewis, also known as #TeamRAVENous, also found themselves soring low with the judges, earning only 15 points for their Salsa. However, despite not getting off to a strong start, his decent base of fans will likely help carry him through for one more week.

However, despite being from a show that had a cult following and not faring too badly with the judges, earning 15 out of 30 for her Cha-Cha, Kate Flannery and her partner, new pro Pasha Pashkov, could have the highest risk of elimination. In terms of fanbase, they may have a much smaller group than the other competitors who fell near the bottom of the scoreboard. The former “Office” star’s partner also doesn’t have the same clout with fans as the other pros either, being that this is his first season, and sometimes, the popularity of a particular pro is all someone needs to carry through another week. Without that to potentially help bolster her against other lower scores and potentially a lower number of fans of her own, it could sadly be the end of the competition for the actress/comedian.

“Dancing With the Stars” airs Mondays at 8 p.m. EDT on ABC.
