Ed Sheeran To Release New Version Of ‘Shivers’ With Korean Singers Jessi, Sunmi
Ed Sheeran has teamed up with Korean hitmakers Jessi and Sunmi for the remix version of “Shivers” which is set for release on Nov. 24.
“Shivers” is the lead track of Sheeran’s latest album “=” which debuted at No. 1 on the U.K. songs chart upon its release in September which also became his 11th No. 1 on the chart. “Shivers” replaced Sheeran’s other single, “Bad Habits,” atop the U.S. songs tally on the No. 1 on the said month.
Warner Music Korea made the announcement on its Instagram page on Friday and through an official statement saying, “ Not only did Ed Sheeran, Jessi, and Sunmi create flawless harmony, but they also worked hard to show a new and different kind of charm [through their collaboration]. Please give the song a lot of interest and love.”
"Ed Sheeran ‘Shivers’ with Jessi and SUNMI coming soon on Nov 24 6:00PM (KST)," Warner Music Korea wrote in the caption of its announcement on Instagram.
Jessi also shared the announcement on her Instagram stories while Sunmi shared a sneak peek of the track on her Twitter page saying, “ [COMING SOON] Ed Sheeran ‘Shivers’ by Jessi and SUNMI 2021.11.24 6PM (KST) .
This is the second time Sheeran has collaborated with Korean musicians after BTS’ “Permission To Dance” which he co-wrote with Snow Patrol’s Johnny McDaid, Steve Mac, Steve Kirk, and Jenna Andrews.
“Permission To Dance” landed atop Billboard’s Hot 100 in July replacing another BTS massive hit, “Butter.” “Permission To Dance” is BTS’ fifth No. 1 on the Hot 100 which counts the hottest singles of the week in the U.S. based on album sales, radio play and online.
Meanwhile, the “Bad Habits” singer is set to perfrorm 2021 Mnet Asian Music Awards (MAMA) next month.
South Korean broadcasting station Mnet’s Chief Producer Park Chan-Wook earlier announced Sheeran’s appearance in the show and this year’s theme, “Make Some Noise.”
"Ed Sheeran wrote BTS’s ‘Permission to Dance.’ He has some ties with K-pop. He’s the singer who sang ‘Bad Habits,’ one of the most-loved pop songs this year in Korea. He is preparing a MAMA version performance,” Park said in a statement in a press conference Tuesday.
Jessi, also known as Jessica Ho, flew from New Jersey to Seoul to pursue a musical career at age 14. She is best known for her smash hit, “Nunu Nana” which took the nation’s music charts by storm upon its launch in 2020.
On the other hand, Sunmi or Lee Sun-Mi was part of the girl group Wonder Girls, the first Korean act to debut on Billboard’s Hot 100 with the single “Nobody” in 2008.
