Following its initial recall from Dec. 20 for hard-boiled eggs sold in pails that were contaminated with Listeria, Almark Foods has issued an expanded recall to include 88 different egg products produced at its Gainesville, Georgia, plant that may also be contaminated with Listeria.

The Listeria outbreak linked to Almark’s eggs has sickened at least seven individuals with one death reported from the bacteria, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) said.

The recalled eggs include all retail, pillow pack, pouch pack, frozen diced, and protein kit products that have Best If Used By dates through March 2, 2020.

The affected eggs were distributed nationwide under the 7 Select, Almark Foods, Best Choice, CMI, Dairy Fresh, Deb-El, Egglands Best, Everyday Essentials, Farmers Hen House, Food Club, Giant Eagle, Great Day, Great Value, Inspired Organics, Kroger, LIDL, Lucerne, Members Mark, Naturally Better, Nellie’s, O Organics, Peckish, Pete & Gerry’s Rainbow Farms, Rembrandt Foods, ShopRite, Simple Truth Organics, Sunshine, Vital Farms, and Wild Harvest brands.

The affected eggs can be identified by the Best If Used By Date on the product package that starts with “G” – signifying it was produced at the Gainesville facility. Almark said egg products with a Best If Used By Date that starts with an “N” or “Y” are not included in the recall.

Consumers that have purchased the company’s protein kits are advised to check the code on the actual egg package within the kit. A complete list of the recalled egg products can be viewed here.

Consumers that have purchased the egg products should immediately discard them. They should not be consumed. Questions about the recall can be directed to Almark Foods’ Customer Helpline at 1-877-547-0454, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. EST.

The expanded egg recall was issued after the FDA sampled Almark’s facility and found the Listeria outbreak strain still present. “Out of an abundance of caution,” Almark issued the expanded recall to include all egg products produced at the facility. The company has temporarily suspended all production at the plant.

Listeria can cause serious and, in some instances, fatal infection in young children, elderly adults, and those with weakened immune systems. Symptoms of Listeria infection can include high fever, headaches, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. It can also cause miscarriages and stillbirths in pregnant women.
