KEY POINTS

  • There are a number of stealth changes made in the 1.03 update
  • General Radahn seemingly got a significant nerf
  • Moonveil now deals less poise damage

The most recent update for “Elden Ring” fixed numerous bugs and performance issues while also shifting the PvE and PvP meta. However, there are apparently plenty of details that FromSoftware either left vague or did not include in the patch notes.

Players in the community have been trying to find out what’s been changed in the game over the past few days since the patch’s launch. Here’s what they’ve found so far.

Moonveil Nerf

The fan-favorite Moonveil katana has apparently received a nerf to the amount of poise damage it deals with its Ash of War, according to Den of Geek. This means that shooting projectiles from the blade via Moonveil’s light or heavy Ash of War attack will not stagger opponents as much as before.

Players should be able to block Moonveil’s attacks more efficiently now without having their guard broken so often. The same is true for AI enemies.

Strength Weapon Scaling Adjustments

According to a Reddit user, fully upgrading a weapon with an Ash of War equipped would make that weapon lose base damage instead of gaining more. This bug was fixed in the latest patch, but not in the way players may have expected.

It turns out that weapons with the Heavy modifier from +1 to +24 upgrade levels actually had more damage than intended. Expect many heavy weapons to deal less damage across the board now.

Cheaper Smithing Stones

The Twin Maiden Husks in the Roundtable Hold now sells Smithing Stones for fewer Runes each, which should make those late-game weapon upgrade runs faster and cheaper. This makes the maidens the preferred Smithing Stone merchant, provided that players have the right Bell Bearings.

Murkwater Catacombs Loot

The reward for beating the boss at the Murkwater Catacombs was changed. Instead of getting the Battle Hammer, players will receive Banished Knight Engvall’s Ashes.

This change will hurt early-game Strength builds as the Battle Hammer is one of the better heavy weapon options for players who want to focus on brute force.

General Radahn Nerf

A dataminer allegedly uncovered some big nerfs to General Radahn. According to them, the boss’ melee and ranged attacks are now easier to avoid thanks to shrunken hitboxes and many other unspecified changes.
