‘Elden Ring’ Game Is George RR Martin Video Game Project, Leak Reveals
A game titled “Elden Ring” is set to be released for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC, according to a new promotional poster. The project is said to be the partnership between "A Song of Fire and Ice" author George R.R. Martin and FromSoftware director Hidetaka Miyazaki. Here’s what we know about this project.
The game’s poster shows a dark background with some fiery runic inscription with the "Elden Ring" title. Known industry reporter Daniel “ZhugeEX” Ahmad’s Twitter noted that this game would be available on all platforms except the Nintendo Switch. This project would also be a partnership for hit book series author and the "Dark Souls" series director.
Known for his book series which spawned the HBO TV show "Game Of Thrones," Martin revealed in a recent blog post that he has consulted for a Japanese game once. Martin didn’t mention which game he worked on, but many fans were excited to check out his next work.
While Ahmad noted that “Elden Ring” is Martin’s work too, the poster didn’t have any official sources confirming the release, and FromSoftware has yet to talk about a new game.
Last March, FromSoftware and Activision released the “Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice,” where players explored feudal Japan as a ninja that is cursed with toxic immortality.
Similar to other morbid FromSoftware entries, the main character’s revivals often got his small group of allies sick with a deadly disease, which worsened for each of his deaths. If we mix Miyazaki’s desolate stories and world-building with Martin’s likeable yet susceptible to death characters, it could be a potentially great game to look out for.
Partnerships with big names outside the video game industry aren’t new as Sony is currently working with game director Hideo Kojima, film director Guillermo Del Toro and an assortment of Hollywood stars. In the past, even Quantic Dream’s David Cage made a game called "Omikron: The Nomad’s Soul" with singer David Cage.
With all-star production teams slowly gaining speed in the industry, we’ll have to wait and see if Martin and Miyazaki’s supposed “Elden Ring” game is going to be any good.
