'Elden Ring': Starscourge Radahn Boss Fight Guide
KEY POINTS
- Radahn may be better fought while on foot instead of on horseback
- The boss is weak against bleed and rot damage
- Summoned NPCs can be re-summoned again mid-fight
The third major Shardbearer boss fight players can encounter in “Elden Ring” has already gained a fair bit of notoriety within the community.
Starscourge Radahn, as comical as he might look, is one of the toughest boss encounters in the game. The oversized general uses twin greatswords and a variety of gravity-based magic to destroy players with very little effort. He might seem impossible to beat at first, even with all of the friendly NPCs in the area, but there are a few tricks to make this fight much easier.
To actually fight Radahn, players need to wait for the aptly-named Radahn Festival to begin at Redmane Castle in Caelid. There are varying reports as to when the festival starts, but resting at any Site of Grace in the Altus Plains seems to guarantee this event.
Starscourge Radahn Tips
Though it might seem counterintuitive, Radahn is best fought on foot. Most giant enemies are easier to fight when players are right next to them because their attacks have dead zones at very close ranges.
At the beginning of the fight, summon the NPCs at the starting point while slowly heading toward Radahn. Use the debris on the field to block the boss’ arrows, then use Torrent to close the distance.
Let the NPCs get Radahn’s attention and keep reviving them if they go down. Stick to Radahn’s sides or back and keep hitting him. The boss is very weak to bleed and rot damage; any weapon or item that can stack these status effects is great in this fight.
Once Radahn jumps away, keep track of where he’s going to crash down. The best way to avoid getting crushed is by riding Torrent in a circle. Re-summon NPCs before he lands and let them tank Radahn’s damage again. Wait until the boss uses his big moves like the jumping slam attack and the corkscrew charging attacks before going back into the fray.
This fight can be done on horseback, but players will have to use hit-and-run tactics because of the lack of invulnerability frames on Torrent’s dash and the sheer range of Radahn’s melee attacks. Don’t forget to use items like Kukris to apply bleed damage from a distance.
