KEY POINTS

  • Dragonknights have excellent self-healing, damage mitigation and crowd control
  • One-handed weapons with shields are great for tanking as a Dragonknight
  • Dragonknight tanks can be built for solo or party-oriented gameplay

Among all of the classes in “The Elder Scrolls Online,” the Dragonknight is arguably the best one for players looking to play the Tank. Dragonknights not only have excellent defensive skills, but they also have very high resource regeneration, making ability spamming more manageable.

Here are some quick-fire tips on how to tank as a Dragonknight in “The Elder Scrolls Online.”

Class Skills

Dragonknights have access to strong on-demand heals and shields. The Dragon Blood skill heals players for 33% of their missing health while also granting the Major Fortitude buff, which increases Health Recovery. This can be upgraded to Green Dragon Blood, which grants Major Endurance and Minor Vitality.

Meanwhile, the Obsidian Shield ability grants a strong damage shield to the caster and all allied players nearby. The Igneous Shield morph grants a stronger barrier to the Dragonknight. This skill can be used to absorb big bursts of damage while also protecting teammates from stray mobs.

For crowd control, Dragonknights can use the Unrelenting Grip skill that morphs from Fiery Grip. This skill pulls an enemy to the Dragonknight, making it a great tool to catch distant enemies or for stacking groups in one spot.

For the ultimate ability slot, Magma Shell is the best option. It grants immense damage reduction that makes Dragonknights almost unkillable when active.

Weapon Abilities

Dragonknights who want to go full tank can opt for a one-handed weapon and a shield, but a two-handed weapon can also be a decent option.

One-hander and shield combos grant the Puncture skill, which is a bread-and-butter taunt. This will be the primary taunt for the early game until the Undaunted skill tree is unlocked.

Those who opt for a two-handed weapon in their alternate weapon slot can use Brawler for area damage and shield generation. It won’t taunt enemies, however, which makes this more suited for tanky solo builds than party-oriented gameplay.

General Tips

  • Tanks in “ESO” should focus on taunting priority targets and not weaker enemies since minor mobs can pose very little threat to party members
  • Buff allies and debuff enemies as much as possible
  • Dragonknights deal plenty of damage-over-time effects with their abilities, making them great off-tanks or solo tanks
  • Nords make for ideal Tanks because of their innate statistics
