Elderly Couple Found Brutally Murdered In Massachusetts Home; Suspect On The Run
Authorities launched a manhunt for a suspect who is accused of brutally murdering a husband and wife in their Massachusetts home.
Officers were conducting a welfare check at a Marshfield residence in Plymouth County at around 9:19 p.m. Tuesday when they found Carl Mattson, 70, and his wife, Vicki dead with "obvious signs of trauma," inside the house. Vicki would have turned 71 years old Wednesday.
"Both of the victims were stabbed and bludgeoned to death," Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy Cruz said during a press briefing.
Police believed it was a targeted attack, and identified the suspect as 27-year-old Christopher Keeley.
"This does not appear to be a random act of violence. This appears to be a targeted attack," Cruz said, according to WCVB. "The individual that we are looking for right now, we consider him armed and dangerous. We do not consider him to be in the area right now."
Keeley, who also goes by the name "Crispy," is believed to have been acquainted with the couple. According to details shared by the authorities, the suspect is 5'7, weighs 140 pounds, and has blonde hair. He may have dyed his hair red to change his appearance, police said.
Cops located an empty 2019 black Jeep Wrangler, which they believed Keeley stole from the crime scene, at a parking lot in Avon Wednesday afternoon. His whereabouts remained unknown and he was "known to carry knives," as per an alert issued by the department.
Keeley's last known address was in Weymouth, Massachusetts. "We're not sure how long he has been gone," Cruz added.
Kathleen Fay, a lawyer representing Keeley's family, issued a statement saying they were fully cooperating with the authorities in the matter.
"At approximately 6:30 a.m. on Wednesday November 30, 2022 the family of Christopher Keeley was notified that the Massachusetts State Police were looking to question Christopher in relation to a situation in Marshfield. The Mass State Police have been given the full cooperation of Mr. Keeley's family," the statement read, as per the outlet.
A possible motive behind the double murder was under investigation. Once arrested, Keeley would be charged with murder in connection with the double homicide, Cruz added.
People with any information regarding the incident were asked to call State Police at 774-434-5999 or Marshfield police at 774-380-4289.
