An elderly hawker suffered burns after an irate customer threw hot porridge on her because the egg wasn’t cooked properly. The incident took place in Singapore’s Whampoa Hawker Centre on Saturday.

Speaking to local media, the hawker, identified as 66-year-old Zhou Yu Ye, said the customer, a man in his 40s, arrived at her stall and asked her for eggs. He, however, did not specify that he wanted the eggs to be cooked thoroughly.

“He was unhappy that the egg was not completely cooked, and asked me, ‘How can infants eat raw eggs?’. After that, he swore at me and belittled me by saying that I’m just a worker,” the hawker said, adding that she then made another bowl of porridge for the customer.

When the man continued to scold her, the hawker said, “What if I’m the boss of this stall?”

This angered the man further. In a fit of rage, he threw the hot porridge at her. The hawker immediately called the police. She soon started feeling a burning sensation on her face and in no time her face started to swell. Her shoulders too were scalded.

“I got two huge blisters on my face. The doctor said that I have second-degree burns on my face and shoulder. They will definitely leave scars. The remaining skin injuries will require at least two years to heal,” she said, adding the man apologized to her for his behavior.
