‘Elementary’ Season 6 Spoilers: Will Sherlock Tell Joan About His Condition?
“Elementary” executive producer Rob Doherty revealed that Sherlock Holmes (Jonny Lee Miller) will tell Joan Watson (Lucy Liu) about his recent medical condition in the upcoming Season 6 of the CBS series.
In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Doherty said that Sherlock “knows by now that problems like these are best addressed with help from friends,” so viewers will definitely see the British sleuth open up about his condition to his partner next season. The real question, however, is how long before Sherlock will tell Joan about it. “Has he waited too long to confide in her?” teased Doherty.
It was revealed at the end of the Season 5 finale that Sherlock is sick. As seen in the final moments of the episode, Sherlock was seen sitting in a medical waiting room before he was taken inside for a brain scan.

While the result of the brain scan is yet to be revealed, Doherty said during a separate interview with Entertainment Weekly that the private investigator’s prognosis will affect him on many fronts in Season 6. “It’s going to create some problems, both personal and professional,” Doherty said. “For starters, Sherlock made a mistake when he decided to keep his condition from Joan. He’ll have a lot to explain and a lot to make up for. … And, of course, there will be an impact on his work. Sherlock is accustomed to being the finest detective in New York, if not on the planet. But the work won’t come as easily to him when the new season begins, at least not at first.”
Doherty added that Sherlock’s prognosis will also affect how he deals with his sobriety. “He’ll also find his sobriety regimen ‘competing’ with a regimen designed to address his prognosis,” Doherty said. “There will be times he’ll question whether he can tackle one problem without succumbing to the other.”
CBS renewed “Elementary” for Season 6 on May 13. A few days after the season renewal was made public, CBS Corporation CEO Leslie Moonves announced during the network’s annual Upfront press breakfast that Season 6 of the crime drama will only consist of 13 episodes. Moonves also confirmed speculations that Season 6 will premiere midseason.
