Elizabeth Leigh Garner: Former Titans Cheerleader Charged With Sexually Assaulting 12-Year-Old Boy

A 42-year-old former cheerleader for the Tennessee Titans until 2009, Elizabeth Leigh Garner, has been indicted for sexually assaulting a 12-year-old boy.

In an interview with NewsChannel 5, Garner didn’t deny claims that she followed the boy into a bathroom and offered to perform a “sexual act” on him while attending a party at his home, but she claims that the incident had been a mistake.

"Ms. Garner, who was advised of her Miranda Rights, stated that she was drunk that evening and that she got the boy confused with a man who also at the residence," Murfreesboro Police Detective Tommy Roberts said, according to Deadspin.

However, Garner’s account does not match up with the account that the boy gave police during an interview at his school. Roberts said that the boy claimed that he had been on his way to use the bathroom in his home when Garner followed him in and offered to perform oral sex on him, the Murfreesboro Post reported.

“He stated she was asking him if he had ever been with a woman,” Roberts said. He added that the boy also said that Garner groped him on the outside of his pants and tried to remove his clothing before he got away.

“He also said she was making an attempt to take his shorts off,” Robert said.

Garner’s solicitation reportedly frightened the boy, who left the room and informed his mother.

Kyle Evans, a public information officer for the police department, told NewsChannel 5 that there was "no excuse for sexually assaulting a child." Evans added that there are "problems" if an adult was unable to tell the difference between another adult and a child.

Garner was taken into custody at the Rutherford County Adult Detention Center and held on $30,000 bond. She is charged with aggravated sexual battery and solicitation of a minor and faces more than 8 years in prison if she is found guilty.
