'Elvis' Trailer: Austin Butler Flaunts His Dancing Moves; Presley's Mid-Life Crisis [Watch]
Warner Bros. has dropped the first trailer of Baz Luhrmann's highly anticipated musical drama "Elvis," which features actor Austin Butler as legendary singer Elvis Presley.
Tom Hanks plays Presley's manager Colonel Tom Parker in the movie. "There are some who make me out to be the villain of this here story," Hanks says in the three-minute, 16-second trailer.
The 65-year-old actor questions, "Are you born with destiny? Or does it just come knocking at your door?" while Butler walks on the stage to perform, seemingly for the first time as he looks nervous. He adds, "At that moment I watched that skinny boy transform into a superhero. He was my destiny."
He sets the stage on fire with his dance moves and the ladies in the audience go crazy for him. The trailer also shows Butler's character dealing with a mid-life crisis and fear of losing fame with time.
"Some people want to put me in jail, the way I was moving," he says. "I can't move, I can't sing. I'm almost 40 and nobody's going to remember me. I need to get back to who I really am. This could all be over in a flash."
The trailer received mixed reactions from fans.
"Hello Baz! What's a girl gotta do to get to attend the world premiere of Elvis?" one fan wrote. "It would be a dream come true for me to meet you and the cast and see this incredible film! Been a huge fan of your work since I was a little girl!"
Some were not happy with Butler's performance. "Looks pretty abysmal. Sure, good production design... But man, they cast the lead horrendously going by this," one user wrote.
"Elvis" is slated to release in theaters on June 24. Actress Olivia DeJonge will be seen playing Presley's wife, Priscilla. The flick also stars Dacre Montgomery, Luke Bracey, YolaMaggie Gyllenhaal and Rufus Sewell.
The movie was initially scheduled to release in November last year. Director Luhrmann shared a teaser the same month revealing the new release date.
The filming of the movie was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic as Hanks contracted the virus in March 2020.
