New TV series “Emerald City” is premiering on NBC in 2017. The peacock network has just released the synopsis of the two-hour series premiere.

In the first hour of the Season 1 premiere, titled “The Beast Forever,” 20-year-old Dorothy Gale (Adria Arjona) is swept up into the eye of a storm while searching for her mother in a farm in Kansas. Much like the original “The Wizard Of Oz” story, the farm girl gets transported to a mystical world where an all-powerful wizard named Oz (“Daredevil” actor Vincent D’Onofrio) rules a kingdom.

Episode 1 will see Oz face the wrath of a growing cauldron of witches in his kingdom as a disaster looms in the horizon brought on by a mythical force.

Then, in the second hour (episode 2), Dorothy meets a young, wounded soldier who suffers from amnesia. This man will be later known as the Scarecrow (Oliver Jackson-Cohen). In a departure from the original story, Dorothy falls in love with the Scarecrow. Elsewhere, the Wizard of Oz sends Eammon (Mido Hamada) on a mission to discover what fell from the sky and disturbed his kingdom.

During her journey home, Dorothy also meets a young man attempting to free his best friend (Jordan Loughran) from a mysterious woman (Fiona Shaw).

Of course, no tale about the Wizard of Oz is complete without the witches. In Season 1, episode 2, titled “Prison Of The Abject,” witches Glinda (Joely Richardson) and West (Ana Ularu) come together in Emerald City to say goodbye to their dearly departed sister, the witch of the East (Florence Kasumba). The trailer shows that Dorothy’s arrival caused the death of the witch of the East.
