Doug Liman’s sci-fi epic “Edge Of Tomorrow” was a sleeper hit when it was released in 2014. Since the film’s success, there have been talks of a sequel making its way to the big screen and it seems that Warner Bros. is slowly moving forward in getting the final result.
Emily Blunt, who portrayed the character of Rita Vrataski in the highly-successful movie, opened up about the film’s progress and noted that she is eagerly waiting to be part of the sequel as soon as the script of the movie is finalized.
Speaking in an interview with IndieWire, the 37-year-old actress explained that the studio has an idea of what they are going to make and is currently working on it. The actress, who is currently busy with promotions for “A Quiet Place: Part II,” also hopes that she does get time from her already packed schedule to work on the sequel because she definitely wants to be part of it.
Last year, it was confirmed that the production company has hired Matthew Robinson to pen the script for the sequel. According to reports, the pitch that Robinson presented in front of the studio got a nice reaction from everyone and they decided to give the writing responsibilities to him.
“I think there is an idea, that he says is great. And he says this guy came in and cracked the case. How the stars will align for us to be able to do it. I do not know. I hope they do,” Blunt said.
The Golden Globe-winning actress further joked that the makers need to get the work done really fast, or they would have to use the technology of de-aging to make Tom Cruise and her look younger. Martin Scorsese used the technique to make Robert DeNiro, Al Pacino, and Joe Pesci look younger in the movie “The Irishman.”
“Tom and I are going to be 70 before we make another one. It is going to look a bit weird. We will have to do a real flashforward one. We will go full ‘Irishman ,’” Blunt said.
“Edge Of Tomorrow” also starred Cruis in the lead role alongside Blunt. The movie went on to become a critical as well as a financial success at the global box office, accumulating more than $370 million during its run.
Released in 2014, the movie still holds a score of 90% on the review site Rotten Tomatoes.
