Emmy Rossum Transforms Into Sexy Billboard Star ‘Angelyne’ For Peacock’s New Series [Video]
Peacock has dropped a new teaser trailer for its limited series, “Angelyne,” which stars Emmy Rossum as the sexy '80s Los Angeles Billboard superstar.
"You really want to know my story? The story of my life?" Angelyne, played by Rossum asks in the clip. The 35-year-old “Shameless” actress is seen wearing a bright blond wig and a low-cut pink body-hugging dress as she admires the exterior of her barbie pink Corvette before boarding it and continues, "The truth is -- I’m something that you have to experience."
The limited series will be released on May 19.
“Angelyne” revolves around the so-called “glow-in-the-dark queen of the universe” who began popping up on billboards around Los Angeles in 1984 and became an overnight sensation. She took advantage of her notoriety by releasing a dance pop album, “Driven to Fantasy,” in 1986 and even appeared in a cameo in the 1988 film, “Earth Girls Are Easy.”
A press release described the show as a limited series about "fame, identity, survival, billboards, Corvettes, lingerie, men, women, women teasing men, men obsessed with women, West Hollywood, crystals, UFOs, and most importantly of all, the self-proclaimed Rorschach test in pink, glow-in-the-dark queen of the universe, Angelyne," ET reported. The series also stars Alex Karpovsky, Lukas Gage, Michael Angarano and Charlie Rowe, according to the outlet.
“As a society broadening our understanding of identity, this story plays with large questions," Rossum, who is also an executive producer of the series, said in a statement cited by ET.
"I've spent the better part of 4 years thinking, living, and breathing this project. I love Angelyne. She’s as if Marilyn Monroe got into an easy bake oven with an 80s punk Barbie Doll, and a dose of new age spirituality. She's a trailblazer, a hustler, a visionary, the original influencer, a living-breathing piece of art. Here is a little taste of the show. I hope you fall in love with her magic,” she said.
But showrunner and executive producer Allison Miller emphasized that the series "isn't the true story of Angelyne."
"It's not a straight forward biopic. It’s a story inspired by everything Angelyne represents and so it’s a magical story, a hopeful story, a story about becoming the person you were meant to be and believing in your own inner strength to manifest your dreams," Miller said in a statement. "It’s a story about Los Angeles and everything the city means to people who move here and to people who dream about moving here."
