‘Empire’ Season 2 Spoilers: Anika Tells The Lyons Her Shocking Secret In Episode 14; ‘Time Shall Unfold’ Recap
Hakeem was starting to settle into his role as CEO on Fox’s “Empire” Season 2. However, it was only a matter of time before Lucious schemed a way to take the company away from his youngest son. Hakeem not only lost the company, but found out other life-changing news in episode 14, titled “Time Shall Unfold.”
Episode 14 begins with Rhonda (Kaitlin Doubleday) eating dinner at Anika’s (Grace Gealey) waiting for Andre (Trai Byers) to show up so they can talk. When Andre gets there Anika leaves the room and the two try to work out their differences. While they talk they hear Anika throwing up in the bathroom and they go check on her. Anika comes clean and says she’s pregnant and Hakeem (Bryshere Y. Gray) is the father.
Lucious (Terrence Howard) debuts his “Boom Boom Boom Boom” video at his house to the Empire shareholders. They all want him back as CEO and he tells them if that’s what they want, he’s willing to listen. Cookie (Taraji P. Henson) arrives at his house to yell at Lucious for bringing Freda Gatz (Bre-Z), the daughter of Frank Gathers (Chris Rock), to Empire. She fears if Freda learns the truth about who killed her father, she’ll retaliate on one of the Lyon boys.
Meanwhile, Freda and Jamal (Jussie Smollett) are working on a second song that he wants to appear on his “Black and White” album. He shows the track off during a meeting and Cookie acts like she’s not impressed because she doesn’t want Freda near her sons.
Andre goes to see Jamal and Hakeem during an Empire meeting. He warns Hakeem that Lucious is going to come after him during a shareholder meeting so he has to be prepared. He asks Hakeem what the biggest thing he’s working on is and he says it’s the Antony and Cleopatra fashion line. Andre believes that’s what Lucious is going to go after to throw him off. Sure enough, Thirsty (Andre Royo) and a few of Lucious’ men break into the warehouse to steal all the clothes in the fashion line.
Hakeem goes to Lucious’ to confront him about the stolen merchandise and he threatens to go to the police. Lucious tells him not to be a snitch and Hakeem gets a call from Laura (Jamila Velazquez). None of the equipment arrived to her concert because police stopped the trucks and found drugs inside where the equipment was. Lucious had it planted there and told Hakeem a good CEO knows how to “clap back.”
Cookie goes to see Hakeem in the studio and tells him that she got hit artist Stacee Run-Run (Cataya “Cat” Washington) to agree to make a song with Jamal on his new album. However, the only way she will is if she’s the only female rapper on the album, meaning he can’t work with Freda.
Lucious and Andre make peace with each other when Lucious takes his oldest son to the cemetery where his mother is buried. Lucious tells Andre if they work together again it could erase both of their pain and they can move on from the past.
Hakeem finds out that the company isn’t doing so well in a meeting before the shareholder event. He tells Cookie he wants her to get Lucious to back off and know he’s the one responsible for issues going on. She warns him to remain calm and to not get attitude during the big meeting.
Jamal breaks the news to Freda that he can’t work with both her and Stacee. Freda tells him that he should stick with Stacee because she’s a huge artist before leaving the studio. Jamal is crushed by the decision.
Andre and Rhonda bring Anika before the entire Lyon family and she tells them all that she’s pregnant with Hakeem’s baby. Cookie is disgusted with Hakeem and Lucious wants to know what Anika wants. She says that she’s going to keep the baby and all she asks is for the baby to have a family. She wants to make amends with the Lyons, who can’t believe what they’re hearing.
Lucious makes a surprise visit to Anika’s house where he offers to pay her $10 million to give the baby to Hakeem and walk away after the baby is born. The two fight about their past and she threatens to go to the FBI on Lucious if he doesn’t work with her. Lucious then threatens her life and leaves.
The big shareholder meeting begins and Hakeem starts taking questions from shareholders. Lucious then stands up and starts calling out Hakeem on all of the delays and mistakes he’s made in front of the shareholders, thanks to information he got from Andre. The shareholders start to chant for Lucious to take back over the company and Cookie goes on stage to try and control the damage. However, Hakeem later gets voted out as CEO and the company goes back into the hands of Lucious.
Jamal gets stood up in the studio by Stacee Run-Run, but she prerecorded her part for Jamal. Jamal isn’t feeling making a song that way and he goes back to Freda to try to make amends. He feels that making music with her is real and was the way he started making music. She tells him she’ll think about going back into the studio to record with him.
The episode comes to an end with a shocking moment in Pennsylvania. Thirsty visits a senior citizen home where Leah Walker is. This means that Lucious’ mother didn’t really kill herself and his story might not be the truth of how he grew up.
