  • Erika Jayne shared a fan's post slamming attorney Ronald Richards, who is overseeing the liquidation of Tom Girardi's law firm
  • The fan comment seemingly suggested that Jayne's situation was similar to Jesus being crucified on the cross
  • Jayne denied comparing herself to Jesus, insisting that "someone else did, and I reposted it"

Erika Jayne was recently slammed on social media for seemingly comparing herself to Jesus Christ over the public scrutiny she's faced for her ongoing legal troubles.

The controversy began after the "Real Housewives of Beverly Hills" reposted a fan's Instagram Story post to her own account. "This is exactly how CHRIST died," wrote the fan, who called out lawyer Ronald Richards — the attorney overseeing the liquidation of Jayne's estranged husband Tom Girardi's law firm.

Jayne was immediately criticized on social media for seemingly suggesting that her situation was similar to Jesus being crucified on the cross.

"Erika Jayne comparing herself to Christ is … absolutely insane. This woman has lost her damn mind," one person wrote on Twitter, sharing a screenshot of the reality star's Instagram Story post.

The fan comment that Jayne shared stated that the lawyer should be "disbarred" for "slandering" the singer for misconduct she hasn't been charged with and alleged that the attorney "undermined the judicial system by making accusations & insinuations in hopes it will inspire public opinion to override the courts."

Richards previously publicly called for Jayne to return $25 million that he believes she wrongly took from her estranged husband's firm, which is now in bankruptcy. He also tweeted this week that he will be watching the upcoming "RHOBH" reunion, where Jayne will be grilled by Andy Cohen over her involvement in Girardi's embezzlement case.

In a statement to Page Six, the lawyer defended his comments, saying, "There is not a single statement that anyone can point to that our office has ever posted that is untrue or inaccurate. Reposting someone's insulting statement doesn't change that fact, all of our posts are accurate and sometimes the truth hurts."

Jayne later denied comparing herself to Jesus. "No, I did not compare myself to Christ, someone else did and I reposted it," she wrote on Twitter. "Now everyone can have a pretend meltdown about it."

She also shared on her Instagram Story another repost that called her critics "ignorant."

"This is not a post comparing [Erika] to Christ. It's comparing an unethical lawyer who is trying to undermine this judicial system by persuading the courts to ACT based on public opinion and not by the law. Just like the Pharisees did to Christ," the fan's post said, referring to an ancient Jewish sect that was judgmental of Jesus.

Jayne's response garnered her another round of criticism. "Reposting is the same as posting yourself. It means you cosigned it. Seriously, what is wrong with you?" one user commented.

"Erika Jayne is pulling a Vicki Gunvalson by comparing her own drama to the crucifixion of Christ," another wrote, referring to Gunvalson comparing herself to Jesus in one episode of "Real Housewives of Orange County."

Amid the backlash, many of Jayne's fans sent her messages of support on social media.

"Erika, you are a Queen. The truth will prevail, and you owe no one a single second of your energy. Your true fans are behind you," one commented.

"And just like Christ, we want to see @erikajayne resurrected and bring out a new album. Channel all this hate energy and turn it into something powerful!" another wrote.

Jayne previously accused Richards of extortion for publicly offering her to settle her alleged part in Girardi's bankruptcy case. Girardi's former firm, Girardi & Keese, owes over $101 million in debt for allegedly mismanaging clients' funds, including those of the victims of a 2018 plane crash.

Jayne has denied having any knowledge of her estranged husband's legal and financial troubles.
