Fans were stunned when they learned the truth about just who Barbara Morgan was and why she was so significant to Jon on the “A Million Little Things” season finale. Of course, while we now know the truth behind that mystery, there is so much else to learn when the show picks up for Season 2 this fall.

Here’s what we can look forward to in regards to Season 2:

Jon/Delilah/Barbara Morgan:

Though we now know that Jon (Ron Livingston) felt he owed Barbara (Drea de Matteo) because her boyfriend Dave was on the fateful first flight that was hijacked and went into the first tower in New York on 9/11--after he had missed the flight—the biggest part of the mystery was solved. However, the story may not entirely be over, because Barbara’s son—the one she had with Dave but who believed his father is someone else—is none other than PJ (Chandler Riggs), who has been talking with Rome (Romany Falco).

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, creator DJ Nash teased that PJ’s part of the story could be a big part of things going into Season 2.

“We have already started to set up a story for season 2. The viewers may not be aware that they are already exposed to that story, but it’s already there and we go into season 2, there is a new thing to follow that will play us throughout. A separate issue that is not related to Jon’s suicide.”

However, Jon’s arc may be over, with Nash confirming that as of now, Livingston is not signed on for Season 2.

“He has been a great partner in this, so I’d love to continue to have him tell his story. He has another series that he’s working on, so we may just have to find those moments, but I’d love to have him back,” he said.

Rome/Gina

Their connection to PJ won’t be the only thing Rome and Gina (Christina Moses) face as a challenge in Season 2, as fans saw Rome eager to start a family with his wife—but she remains firm on the fact that she doesn’t want kids. Nash teased that the couple will continue to deal with this struggle in the new season, but that the story will be an intriguing one in the way Gary (James Roday) and Maggie’s (Allison Miller) story was in Season one.

“We’re going to watch this couple deal with the fact that, right now anyway, they both want different things in this marriage,” he said. “But that story has been laid out, and we have a plan for that that I think will move the fans in the same way that the Gary/Maggie story move them in season 1.”

Maggie/Gary

Though the survival they’ve both dealt with in terms of their individual cancers being in remission is a huge thing for them, Nash teased that a different kind of survival will affect them in Season 2, as they both deal with their own versions of survivors guilts—Gary from not being able to save Jon and Maggie from the fact that her chemo partner Linda died.

“So we will see this couple struggle to define themselves independent of cancer and the fact that they’re dealing with their own survivor’s guilt for similar reasons—and for different reasons,” Nash said.

Eddie/Katherine

Of course, though they were finally on a path to reconciliation, things may not be easy for Eddie (David Giuntoli) and Katherine (Grace Park), since he is preparing to tell her the truth about being the father of Delilah’s (Stephanie Szostak) baby. Nash teased that while his being honest and coming clean is a huge step forward, fans are going to love seeing how that scene finishes playing out.

“I found that Grace Park is fantastic when you put her in a situation where the rest of us would crumble and she shows true grit,” Nash said. “And so I’m excited for us to have that moment play out with her. I will tell you that when we shot the first half of the scene for the finale, I snuck the pages to the actors and we shot the second half of the scene, and it’s really beautiful.”

“A Million Little Things” returns to ABC for Season 2 in the fall.
