Kris Wu, a former member of South Korean boyband EXO, has been accused of date-raping a student and luring several other underage girls into having sex with him.
The 30-year-old Chinese-Canadian pop star, whose real name is Wu Yi Fan, was accused by 19-year-old university student Du Meizhu of date-raping her when she was 17, The Guardian reported. Additionally, Du alleged that Wu also lured at least seven other girls under the age of 18 into sexual relationships with alcohol and promises of fame.
Two of the victims were "still minors who don't want their lives to be disturbed but wish to see [Wu] punished," Du said in an interview with Chinese news portal NetEase Sunday. The age of consent in China is 14.
Du, then a 17-year-old acting major, alleged that she was brought to a casting interview at Wu's home, where she was given alcohol and prevented from leaving.
"I became unconscious soon. When I woke up again, I was on Wu's bed," Du told NetEase, adding the singer-actor allegedly did not use a condom.
Du came under the impression that they were dating exclusively, but Wu began to ignore her a few months later.
She claimed Wu paid her 500,000 yuan ($77,130) to "keep quiet" but said she paid back the money and was ready to face legal action, the BBC reported.
According to the university student, Wu would allegedly also pay other women he had slept with to introduce more girls to him. Du also said that several other women who had similar experiences with Wu had reached out to her since she went public with her allegations.
Wu's management has since denied the claims and accused Du of fabricating the story, according to the BBC report.
"I didn't respond earlier because I didn't want to interfere with judicial proceedings... but I cannot bear it anymore," Wu wrote on Chinese microblogging platform Weibo Monday.
"I only met Miss Du once at a friend’s gathering, I didn’t ply her with alcohol... I have never 'coerced women into sex' or engaged in 'date rape,'" he continued, adding that he does not have sex with underage girls.
Wu’s studio said it has begun to take legal action against Du over the allegations.
Several brands have severed ties with Wu following the allegations, including Chinese skincare brand Kans, music streaming platform Yunting and detergent maker Libai.
Porsche, Lancôme, German brand Tempo, food brand Master Kong and platform Tencent Video also ended their cooperation with Wu, Global Times reported.
