Lewis Hamilton could looking at making history as he is bound to break multiple records of Ayrton Senna and Michael Schumacher this year.
Aside from being one win away from equaling Schumacher’s all-time record, Hamilton has an array of records to break this 2020. Schumacher and Senna were two of the most celebrated Formula One racers before Hamilton. And with the numbers he have written in his stellar career, Hamilton puts himself close to being the world’s greatest F1 racer of all time.
Based on the compilation of Formula One records that could to be broken in 2020 made by Crash.n et, Hamilton is expected to surpass Schumacher and Senna on the following categories:
Total race wins
The Mercedes star could beat one of the long-standing and most impressive F1 records in history as he sits within striking distance of Schumacher ’s 91 grand prix victory.
Hamilton currently has 84 wins (just seven behind Schumacher’s tally) and will be able to surpass F1’s most successful driver this year if he keeps up his remarkable average of scoring at least nine wins per season. This is likely to happen as Hamilton is the only driver in F1 history to have won at least one race in every season he has contested.
Podium finishes
With an impressive 151 podium finishes from 250 starts, Hamilton and the reigning world champion Schumacher (155 podiums) is just four finishes apart.
Grands Prix won leading every lap
If Hamilton completes at least one more lights-to-flag triumph in 2020, the Englishman could also surpass Senna’s record of leading every lap for 19 of his 41 grand prix victories this year.
Most pole positions at the same grand prix
Should Hamilton takes pole position in Australia, it will see him earn the outright record of 9 poles at a single venue. It will be remembered that Hamilton has already racked up eight poles at Albert Park and is now tied on eight poles at the same grand prix with both Senna and Schumacher. Hamilton will match the said Schumacher record of eight wins at the same grand prix if he claims another victory in either Canada or Hungary this year.
Just recently, Hamilton revealed the mentality he will carry amid these world records stories. In his Instagram post, the legendary racer warned his Formula One rivals that he is going to be a “machine” this year as he tries to equal Schumacher’s record.
In a photo of himself enjoying his luxurious home, Hamilton wrote:
“I am at peace when I’m here, can focus and build my mind and body so that I can come back year on year. I’m going to be a machine this year, on another level than ever before! Spread love and positivity everywhere we go.”
Indeed, Hamilton is likely to succeed in his chase for Schumacher’s record as Mercedes are expected to dominate again for the final time before Liberty Media introduces new regulations in 2021.
