Formula One racer Lewis Hamilton admitted to channeling Ayrton Senna and suggested in a detailed statement that breaking Michael Schumacher’s record isn’t his focus in life.

Earlier this month, Hamilton’s father Anthony already suggested that his son could really be thinking about surpassing Ferrari icon Schumacher. However, the Englishman has been consistent in denying that achieving the said milestone in F1 hasn’t been on his head all along.

In fact, in a recent talk with Daily Mail, Hamilton explained in a philosophical manner that he will not allow his chase to become the greatest Formula One driver in history take over his life. Next year, Hamilton is bound to match Schumacher's record haul of seven world championships but the Mercedes star still believes it will be a mistake to put his sole focus into pursuit of further glory.

“You can focus so much on your career, and doing the perfect job, that you miss the world and your whole life can go by,” Hamilton pointed out.

“For everyone there are certain sacrifices and choices you have to make. When you win a world championship, it does feel incredibly rewarding because of the effort you have put in, and there are things you could have done that you didn't do in the hope that it will position yourself better. It really is about finding the right balance,” Hamilton added.

It was also noted that Hamilton admitted that it isn’t “Schumi” who he is channeling but Brazilian F1 legend Senna. According to Hamilton’s statement, it appears that he is more focused on being an inspiration than becoming the best racer in the world.

“I am trying to have a positive impact. I looked at Ayrton Senna. He was a star in the sky and I want to somehow get up there. It is important to find people like that and that is what I am trying to be,” Hamilton admitted.

Meanwhile, Eddie Irvine, Schumacher's former Ferrari colleague believes Hamilton is the best driver that F1 has seen. In a recent interview with RTL, Irvine recalled how tremendous Schumacher was in terms of defying the laws of “speed” but according to Irvine, Hamilton is the greatest wheel-to-wheel racer in the history of Formula 1, outstripping legends such as Schumacher and even the late Senna, GP Fans reported.

"Hamilton is the best racer ever, much better than Schumacher in the wheel-to-wheel duel, much better than Senna," Irvine said.
