Facebook Shooting: Social Media Feud Results In Death Of Milwaukee Teenager
A 14-year-old boy was shot dead in Milwaukee on Friday night, reportedly the aftermath of a Facebook feud about a girl.
The shooting happened at 10:30 p.m. local time (11:30 p.m. EDT) on Milwaukee’s east side. Police heard eight or nine shots fired while patrolling a fireworks show on Milwaukee’s lakefront, said the city's Police Chief Ed Flynn, according to Milwaukee's WITI-TV. The officers found the boy without a pulse and with a shot to the head. Officers said they were able to bring the boy's pulse back, but he died later at a nearby hospital.
Authorities do not have anyone in custody but say they have leads on shooting suspects. They say they've obtained information that the cause of the shooting was a Facebook fight over a girl, according to WITI-TV.
“Words can’t express our frustration,” said Flynn in a news conference with reporters. “This is more than a crime wave; this is a social phenomenon."
This is not the first time a social media dispute has led to violence. In February, a Concord, Massachusetts, woman was arrested on assault charges after fighting with her boyfriend over his Facebook password.
