FaceTime Video Stabbing: Pregnant Texas Woman Stabbed During Video Chat With Soldier Husband
A pregnant Texas woman was brutally stabbed multiple times while her soldier husband stationed overseas watched helplessly on video chat.
According to HLN, 31-year-old Rachel Poole was at home communicating with her husband, Justin Pele Poole, via the Apple app FaceTime on Wednesday when a man appeared and stabbed her several times. El Paso police Detective Mike Baranyay said the woman recognized her assailant and screamed his name to her husband.
Poole called 911 and was transported to University Medical Center in critical condition. Her unborn baby is in good condition. Poole suffered fractures as well as stab wounds to her face and body, HLN said.
The suspect has been identified as 19-year-old Corey Bernard Moss. He is currently in police custody after being found by Fort Bliss Military Police. Investigators said Moss was waiting for Poole as she arrived home before stabbing her with a knife.
Moss reportedly told police that Poole owed him money for vehicle repairs. He has been charged with criminal attempted capital murder and booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility. His bail has been set at $60,000, HLN said.
According to KFOX, Maj. Stephen G. Holt of the Fort Bliss Military Police, released the following statement about the attack: “The incident is under investigation and, as such, we cannot provide any details,” he said. “We are also unable to speculate as to what may have taken place. The investigation into this matter is being conducted by the El Paso Police Department, and Fort Bliss is cooperating fully. We pride ourselves on the professionalism of the soldiers within our ranks. Behavior such as these alleged actions are not representative of the men and women who serve at Fort Bliss. Our immediate concern is for the safety and welfare of the victim. We are monitoring her condition and our thoughts and prayers are with her for a full and quick recovery.”
Meanwhile, Poole’s husband, who has deployed overseas in southwest Asia for about nine months, vented about the situation on Facebook, HLN reports. “Will update Facebook on what exactly happened and is still happening,” he wrote. “As well as the surgeries needed when I get back to the states. P---d off is an understatement. I promised to give my life for this freedom not the other way around. I failed her but never again.”
