Falcon Is Not Marvel’s Next Captain America? Set Photos Reveal Shocking Spoiler
The legacy of Captain America is expected to loom large over the Disney+ limited series “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.” However, it looks like neither Sam Wilson nor Bucky Barnes will be the next Cap. Another character has the shield in new set photos.
Page Six captured a scene being filmed with actor Wyatt Russell, who plays John Walker in the Marvel Studios TV show. He appeared in a military uniform in one scene and a new version of the Captain America suit in another. It also looks like he has Cap’s vibranium shield.
In the comics, Walker is the government-appointed Steve Rogers replacement at one point, dubbed U.S. Agent. He is also the villainous Super-Patriot in a different arc, so fans will have to wait and see where Walker lands in terms of being a hero or villain.
Some fans might be surprised that Walker has the shield, though. In “Avengers: Endgame,” Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers clearly gives it to Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson/Falcon. Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan) looks on approvingly from afar. So how did it get to Walker?
Well, the shield is government property. The feds had no problem taking it from Steve in “Captain America: Civil War,” and that could be how it is taken back from Sam. However, another shield could’ve also been made, whether using vibranium from Wakanda, which is now open to helping other countries, or just making a shield that resembles the original.
This is Marvel, so spoilers are sparse. It isn’t clear exactly how the storyline will work, but it seems unlikely that Walker will be Cap for long. Many suspect he’ll be a villain, but he wouldn’t be the only antagonist.
In addition to Stan and Mackie, Daniel Brühl is also set to return. He’ll reprise his role as Baron Zemo from “Captain America: Civil War.” Falcon and Winter Soldier will get some backup fighting the villain from Sharon Carter/Agent 13 (Emily VanCamp).
“The Falcon and the Winter Soldier” will be one of the first Marvel Studios TV shows to debut on Disney+ this year. It is expected to start streaming in the fall. “WandaVision,” starring Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch, is also expected to premiere sometime this year.
