‘Falcon And Winter Soldier’ Poster Hints At Bucky’s Big Haircut; Fans React
Marvel Studios’ first Disney+ series, “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier,” will feature some big changes. Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson and Sebastian Stan’s Bucky Barnes will finally get some time in the spotlight, but it seems like there might be a big physical change as well. Bucky might finally cut off his luscious locks.
The haircut was seemingly revealed at D23 Expo, a Disney convention held in Anaheim, California, over the weekend. Marvel released concept art posters for several of their upcoming projects, and the image for “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier” shows Bucky with his short hair.
It’s similar to how he wore his hair in “Captain America: The First Avenger,” which was before he was captured by Hydra and turned into the Winter Soldier. Some fans are speculating that the haircut could be symbolic, representing Bucky feeling like himself rather than a Hydra assassin.
Still, fans are divided over whether Bucky’s big chop is the best or worst idea. They’ve taken to Twitter to express their joy or grief.
It seems like it might be more functional for Bucky to have short hair. After all, he apparently stopped in the middle of the massive “Avengers: Endgame” battle to tie his hair back (which anyone with long hair totally understands).
However, it should be noted that this is just a concept art poster, meaning this is an artist's rendering, not a photo from the set. Filming doesn’t start until the fall, and it doesn’t sound like even the stars are sure that the haircut is real. In an interview with TV Guide, Stan responded that he didn’t know what Bucky’s hairstyle will be, but Mackie interjected with a joke.
“We had to cut it,” Mackie joked. “No respectable man wears that hair.”
“I think it’s time,” Stan added. “I think it’s time to get back into the world.”
Not much is known about the Disney+ series, but it seems like it might be about both titular characters embracing new identities. While Bucky may ditch his long hair, Sam will be picking up the Captain America shield, which Steve (Chris Evans) passed along in “Avengers: Endgame.”
“The Falcon and the Winter Soldier” is set to premiere in fall 2020. Stan and Mackie will be joined by Emily VanCamp, reprising her role as Sharon Carter, and Daniel Brühl, returning as Baron Zemo. Wyatt Russell will play new character John Walker. Kari Skogland will direct while Malcolm Spellman is showrunner.
