WWE has been making waves recently on the internet wrestling community after it was revealed that the company’s chairman and CEO was being investigated for allegedly paying out $3 million worth of hush money and elite women’s performer Sasha Banks being supposedly released.
SmackDown commentator Pat McAfee shared his thoughts on the McMahon situation in the most recent episode of his podcast.
“I know less than everybody else… I’m not part of anything. I’m part of no groups, I have no locker room. I literally bounce around, do my thing, and I’m out. It’s designed to be that way,” he said.
“Yesterday, when this hits the internet out of nowhere, I’m like ‘Oh my God.’ It’s hard not to start piecing things together and be like ‘You could see how that person would want, and then that, and if that was happening, how does this not come out?’ I’m watching along with everybody else in the middle of Indianapolis yesterday. But that came out of nowhere.”
The news truly did come out of left field as the Wall Street Journal just posted the article without any leaks from the industry’s most trusted outlets.
Details included of a supposed affair between McMahon and a paralegal that was hired in 2019 and left the company in January of this year, where she was reportedly paid $1 million upfront and $2 million over the next five years so as not to leak any details of their engagements.
The report also named WWE head of talent relations John Laurinaitis as one of the parties involved in the happenings behind the scenes, wherein the paralegal had supposedly signed a nondisclosure agreement with both men.
McAfee is just as shocked as everyone else about the report being released and kept it real with his audience.
“What will happen? There are going to be a lot of investigations. There will be investigations about the investigations too. And those investigations will contradict other investigations. Will you ever get the truth? No. Hopefully, we get part of it though. And I think that’s what everybody’s hoping for,” he later elaborated.
The former NFL punter has been one of the most favorite personalities in recent WWE history because of his natural charisma on the mic and his ability to put on fun-to-watch matches, most notably against Austin Theory at WrestleMania 38.
McAfee ended his comments about the matter by saying that the whole thing “sounds incredibly problematic” and he is not the only one thinking that way.
The timing of Banks’ release was also put into question by fans because of how close they happened to one another, even prompting Fightful’s Sean Ross Sapp to start scrambling for information alongside Wrestling Inc owner Raj Giri, who originally broke the news.
Pro wrestling fans have no choice but to sit on their hands and wait for more details as they come out in the coming days regarding both situations.
