Jeff Hardy was recently arrested for his third driving under the influence (DUI) charge in the past 10 years, and many were quick to pin the blame on his brother Matt Hardy and his wife Reby.
Reby went on social media to address the comments where fans said that they were responsible for enabling the younger Hardy’s most recent run-in with the law.
“So you were there when I booked the event, right? And when I told the promoters to make sure there was no alcohol there? And that he was not served alcohol? Were you there? Were you there when I was trying to make sure all night–through the handlers–that that was not happening? You were there when we walked into his hotel room that night, right?” she said.
“In short of having him (Jeff Hardy) sleep in between me and Matt, there’s really not much more I could have personally done. I make it a point to never speak on his behalf, that’s not my place, I don’t want to do that, he doesn’t want me doing that. But what we’re [going to] make perfectly clear is that I’m not responsible for the actions of a fully grown man.”
Her comments seem to confirm a report put out by Fightful Select that she and Matt were with Jeff, while he was doing a show with his band.
The report also stressed that Matt absolutely did not leave his younger brother until he got to the hotel room safe and sound before flying back to North Carolina.
A lot of fingers were pointed at both the older Hardy brother and his spouse because they were the ones with Jeff a few hours before the incident.
Ultimately, the pair could not always be by Jeff’s side as they also have their own things to deal with and Reby ended her statement with one line that sums up everything she had just said.
“Just a reminder–if you weren’t there, you don’t know,” she stated as a way to silence the critics who have been putting out rumors about the situation and eventually decided to blame them.
In a statement by AEW founder Tony Khan, Jeff will be suspended without pay and will be helping him in getting treatment.
The internet pro wrestling community has also been very vocal in their support of Jeff getting the right treatment that he needs to finally overcome his personal struggles.
