Father Accused Of Raping, Sexually Abusing 11-Year-Old Daughter For Months

A man has been arrested for allegedly raping and repeatedly sexually assaulting his 11-year-old daughter, police said.

The police arrested a 38-year-old man from Mumbai, a city in the northern Indian state of Maharashtra, on Sunday for allegedly sexually abusing his 11-year-old daughter for months.

The alleged abuse began in March but came to light Sunday when a woman noticed the girl crying outside her house, Free Press Journal reported.

The girl initially told the woman that she was upset because she was beaten up by her father. The woman then tried to console the crying child. However, the girl further revealed that her father has been sexually assaulting her for months.

The girl slowly confided in the woman about details of her trauma and said that her father first sexually assaulted her on March 29. He has allegedly continued the abuse since then.

The child’s mother who had disputes with her father had left the house earlier this year. The victim said that she, along with her 9-year-old sister, had been living with their father ever since her mother left them.

The woman took the girl to a hospital and a medical examination revealed that the girl has been sexually assaulted. The incident was then reported to the police.

The girl’s father was arrested on Sunday evening and was charged with rape and sexual assault of a minor under the Protection Of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POSCO).

National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) data from 2018 claims that every fourth victim of rape in India was a minor. The study also shows that in 94% of cases, the assailant was known to the victim.

A similar case of sexual assault was reported in March from the Indian state of Haryana. The police arrested a man for sexually assaulting his 14-year-old daughter while the girl’s mother was away for work. The accused man reportedly bribed the teen girl with money and threatened her with dire consequences if she happened to reveal the assault to anyone. The suspect confessed the crime while he was taken into custody.
