Father Stabs 18-Month-Old Baby In Fit Of Rage, Child Hospitalized

An 18-month-old baby in Malaysia was stabbed by her father in the stomach Saturday.

After receiving a distress call about the incident, the police launched an investigation and arrested the 27-year-old father. They also seized a bread knife believed to be the weapon used to stab the child.

"Our personnel at Bukit Puchong police station received a distress call that a man ran amok and stabbed his daughter in the stomach at a flat at Puchong Permai," senior police officer Abd Othman told the Star News.

"The complainant also called for an ambulance from the Serdang Hospital to attend to the toddler's injuries."

"We have recorded statements from the complainant, as well as other witnesses," Othman said, adding that the father stabbed the child in a fit of rage. "The one-year-and-six-month-old toddler is in stable condition and receiving treatment at the Serdang Hospital."

Othman also said they have notified the Welfare Department about the incident.

Investigators said they will be conducting drug tests on the suspect to find more details about the incident.

It remains unclear if the father and daughter lived alone in the house where the incident took place. The motive behind the stabbing is also under investigation. Charges against the father are yet to be revealed.

Recently, a man in Russia was sentenced to 12-and-a-half years in prison for killing his 3-year-old stepson. Authorities said Sergey Lavrenov attacked the child after returning home from a drinking session with his friends. Lavrenov had kicked the child in his abdomen several times before dragging him to the bedroom.

The incident came to light when the child's mother entered the kid's room to check on him.

"At around 6 a.m. they discovered the child was dead. Then the mother wiped the corpse with a wet rag and changed his dirty clothes. She cleaned her house and only after that called an ambulance. She said to paramedics the boy fell out of the swing," the boy's grandmother, Svetlana Lymar, said at the time.

After an autopsy found the child had a tear in his small intestine and died from internal bleeding, the mother changed her statement and the stepfather was arrested.
