In an apparent case of murder-suicide, a man fatally shot his wife and mother-in-law before killing himself at a home in Florida over the weekend. The couple's three children were rescued by authorities.

Deputies with the Broward County Sheriff's Office arrived at the home in Tamarac after receiving reports of a shooting. The officers entered the residence and found three children in the bedroom.

"The deputies were then able to identify a room where three children, ages 4, 8 and 11, were located and assisted them out of the bedroom window to safety," Sergeant Donald Prichard of the Broward County Sheriff's Office said, ABC-affiliated television WPLG reported.

The officers then found two adults dead in another room and another woman fighting for life. The woman was airlifted to a hospital but she succumbed to injuries.

"The suspected murder-suicide left 3 adults dead and 3 children without parents," the sheriff's office confirmed.

Authorities believe the man, identified as Clody Sylverne, shot the women before killing himself. The names of the women were not released.

Speaking to NBC Miami, Jimmy Chrisponte, Sylverne's close friend, said he last spoke to him three days prior to the incident and was shocked when he heard the news Saturday.

"I can't believe that, my heart is broken right now. He was my best friend. That's my best friend," Chrisponte told the channel. "My phone was on silent so I could not be reached. When I opened it and I found all the missed calls I was like what's going on."

Chrisponte added that the couple did have problems at times.

"To be honest, they had issues but I don't want to get involved between a wife and husband," he said.

Investigators were trying to find out the motive behind the incident. Victim advocates with the Broward Sheriff's Office were looking after the three children.

The incident comes less than a month after a woman fatally shot her husband and their special-needs son before killing herself at their home in Clermont, Florida. Investigators found documents hinting that the woman had been planning to kill her family.
