FaZe Clan Standout Jarvis Kaye Permanently Banned From 'Fortnite' For Cheating
Jarvis Kaye learned the hard way that cheating is like crime: it does not pay.
But while crime ends up in jail, those caught cheating in video games, let alone a very popular one, will have the gamer banned. Epic Games gave Kaye, a famous YouTube streamer and FaZe Clan standout with what seemed to be the ultimate punishment for cheating: he can no longer play “Fortnite.”
Kaye's permanent ban came after he uploaded several videos of him playing with the help of a “cheating software,” said Polygon. It is known as “aimbot” and, just like its name suggests, improves the accuracy of a player to gain the upper hand in non-competitive modes, including solo play.
The videos that showed Kaye never missing a shot has since been removed, the outlet added.
The Independent, which posted Kaye's “emotional” apology video, said that he wasn't aware that using an aimbot could lead to banning.
“All I was thinking about whilst I was making those videos was just how entertaining and interesting these videos would be for you guys to watch,” Kaye told his 2 million subscribers.
His video has been viewed more than four million times since it was uploaded.
The 17-year-old gamer also explained that he never though that he he could get “banned for life” for posting his videos.
“I just want to be clear that this is the first time that I have ever done anything like this,” he said, adding that he never used an “aimbot” on the competitive stage.
An Epic Games representative also told Polygon that they have zero tolerance when it comes to players using “aimbots” and other cheats considering that it would give them an unfair advantage and “ruin games for people who are playing fairly.”
Kamu, a Helsinki-based entity that offers “anti-cheat” service was acquired by Epic Games in 2018 to protect gamers from unwanted gameplay and other scams. It also acted as a shield to prevent hackers from spreading a computer virus to other “Fortnite” players as well as installing malware in their devices through a fake Android app.
While some might say that Kaye's punishment to be just fair, Engadget reported that other streamers like The Fortnite Guy found the penalty to be a tad too harsh. He called Epic Games' decision to permanently ban Kaye from “Fortnite” as “unfair” and pointed that other players who cheated at pro tournaments only got a temporary ban and even went on to compete at the “Fortnite” World Cup.
As for Kaye, he took his punishment honorably.
“Epic, I know I have to take accountability for my actions and I'm going to do my best to accept any punishment that comes my way.”
