Epic Games Tweaks 'Fortnite' Aim Assist On Update Patch v10.40
"Fortnite" players have the freedom to choose between using a controller or the standard keyboard and mouse. While one will seem to have an advantage over the other, users will, most of the time, argue on what method is the best.
The "Fortnite" community will soon set this hot topic on the side with Epic Games' update patch v10.40. It'll come with, of course, a bevy of bug fixes as well as new modes like “The Combine,” a rift zone called “Starry Suburbs” and “Zone Wars”, among others.
However, the highlight of v10.40 is Epic Games' effort to tweak its Aim Assist. For those that don't know, Aim Assist is a default setting that players can either turn on or off. The option is also present in most shooter games as it helps gamers to put on a bit of precision when they're hover their crosshairs over their opponents.
Fortnite Nexus said that some players choose not to use Aim Assist especially when they're playing at higher levels, but some treat it as a “necessity.” The new controller sensitivity on the other hand has received a “rework” in addition to Epic Games tossing in a added options screen.
According to the developer, there are now 10 sensitivity presents for players to choose from. The basics remain the same, but there is now an Advanced Setting for them to further customize their aiming preferences.
Included in the Advanced Settings is the self-explanatory Look Horizontal and Look Vertical Speed alongside Turning Horizontal and Vertical Boost. The same can be said in the Aim Down Sights (ADS) Sensitivity column, while more sensitivity can be moderated, including Aim Assist Strength.
But then again, all eyes will be on the new controller aim assist. Epic Games said that the assistance will be based on a weighted algorithm “that calculates targets in screen space.” What this means is that the new system will apply a variety of aim assist strength and will base it on the target's distance.
Dexerto said that the new feature is one of Epic Games' way of addressing a common auto-aim problem that steals the aim assist away from a player's sight when another enemy enters their frame. In addition, the outlet pointed that their crosshairs will turn red on an enemy if they are within range.
The new assist will also eliminate target snapping, or the dreaded “left trigger spam” now that Epic feels that it is “no longer necessary.” WIll it finally cease the agrument on whether the mouse is better than the controller? Polygon pointed that it's unlikely, but it's going there.
