‘Fear The Walking Dead’ Star Frank Dillane On Filming Season 3 In A Valley In Tijuana, Mexico
Although “Fear the Walking Dead” films Season 3 in Tijuana, Mexico, series star Frank Dillane revealed that the show’s cast and crew aren’t really experiencing too much heat when shooting scenes on location.
“It’s not that hot. It’s quite foggy here,” Dillane, who plays Nick Clark on the AMC series, told Metro in an interview. “We’re in a valley so it is often quite misty and foggy. In Tijuana, they have some sort of saying about people that live in Rosarito (a coastal resort city in the Mexican state of Baja California), they are all sort of moody or something, you know, a bit funny because they don’t see the sun. It actually sounds funny in Spanish. It’s not that sunny here; it’s quite misty and white.”
In a separate interview with AMC, Dillane’s co-star Alicia Debnam-Carey said that filming Season 3 in the isolated valley has been a “blessing and a burden” at the same time. “It’s beautiful and very remote, so you have a lot of time to get to know everyone,” explained Debnam-Carey, who plays Alicia Clark on the “Walking Dead” companion series. “We got a lot of rainfall and there are flower gardens with lilacs and wild flowers and green grass, and you’ve got cows and horses.”

But because there’s no cell reception in the valley, the young actress admitted that she eventually got tired of not being able to contact people she needs to talk to. “At the start of the season, it was quite refreshing because it was like, ‘I’m going to go to work and then I’ll read a book. No, I’ll read three books! This will be amazing. I’ll get to chat with everyone and we’ll all be so connected,’ and then it quickly became, ‘I’m sick of having to drive on this bumpy road to get to this location where I can’t have any contact with the outside world,’” she shared.
While filming in a secluded location has its disadvantages, Debnam-Carey said that she’s still fortunate because everyone on set has great relationships with one another. “It was great and it was also hard,” Debnam-Carey said. “Luckily, we all get along so well and enjoy each other’s company. I’m very grateful for that.”
The first half of “Fear the Walking Dead” Season 3 will conclude this Sunday, July 9, with episodes 7 and 8 airing back-to-back, starting at 9 p.m. EDT on AMC. Check out the synopsis for the midseason finale below:
