‘Fifty Shades Darker’ Skit Cut From Dakota Johnson’s ‘SNL’ Appearance; Watch 'Fifty Shades' Deleted Scene
The sequel to the box office smash “Fifty Shades of Grey” has yet to begin production, but that didn’t stop “Saturday Night Live” from spoofing the upcoming film. During actress Dakota Johnson’s recent appearance on the NBC program, the “Fifty Shades” star acted out a scene from “Fifty Shades Darker,” the second book in author E.L. James’ best-selling series.
In the four-minute skit — which NBC claims was “cut for time” — Johnson portrays her “Fifty Shades” character Anastasia Steele. “SNL” actor Beck Bennett takes on the role of her on-screen lover Christian Grey, who is played by Jamie Dornan in the film. The scene starts after Christian and Anastasia have rekindled their romance following a brief, yet torrid, split in “Fifty Shades Darker.”
“I’ve missed you Anastasia. I’m glad you decided to return,” Bennett says to Johnson in the skit.
“Me too, Christian. A life without you is no life at all,” Johnson says, soon after revealing it’s not only the BDSM-practicing billionaire whose she’s been missing. “I’ve even started to miss the playroom,” she reveals.
After Johnson makes her desires known, Bennett leads her to his infamous Red Room of Pain, only to discover that it is still under construction. Upon entering the secretive den, the couple are welcomed by a pair of construction workers, Nico and Sal, who are played by “SNL” stars Bobby Moynihan and Taran Killam.
“Anastasia, these are the contractors who built my original playroom,” Bennett says.
After Bennett makes his upset known that the men have failed to construct his new playroom in time for Anastasia’s arrival, the duo blame the delay on Christian’s specific needs.
“To be fair, we had to order a lot of custom pieces. Until those show up, our hands are tied,” Moynihan jokes.
“We’ll put together a real nice sex room for you, Miss,” Killam tells Johnson.
“SNL” star Kenan Thompson also makes a cameo as construction worker testing out Johnson’s new sex swing in the skit.
“Can he not sit in that?" Johnson asks. "I mean, it’s just that I’m the one that has to be tied to it naked."
Johnson made her debut appearance on “SNL” Feb. 28. The film star's hosting gig came about just two weeks after “Fifty Shades of Grey” made its debut. The movie has since grossed over $485 million at the worldwide box office.
During Johnson’s “SNL” appearance she also starred in one other “Fifty Shades”-inspired skit. In the scene, Johnson portrayed herself working the romance feature’s press tour, enduring a cringeworthy interview with a high school film critic who asks her inappropriate questions about her “sexual pain" tolerance. Other scenes that featured the actress included a controversial ISIS skit and an ode to Disney’s “Cinderella.”
Director Sam Taylor-Johnson announced that “Fifty Shades Darker,” and the third book in James’ series, “Fifty Shades Freed,” be would adapted for the big screen last month. Despite rumors Dornan was planning to leave the franchise, the actor will reportedly return alongside Johnson to continue Christian and Anastasia’s love story in “Darker.” The film is expected to begin production in Vancouver in June with a speculated March 2016 release date.
