Other than the main characters, familiar faces like the Turks also make an appearance in this trailer. The Turks are minor antagonists that work under President Shinra’s command and gets in the way of Cloud’s group, AVALANCHE, operations. So far, Reno, Tseng, and Rude were revealed in the trailer.
Main Characters
Cloud Strife’s attacks also allow him to shift into two different modes. Pressing the Triangle button will make him switch between his Punisher and Operator stances. The full use and difference of these stances are yet to be confirmed.
Meanwhile, Tifa has a buff system where she powers up for using the “Unleash Secret Technique” ATB gauge. To know if this move was active, Tifa’s hands would glow yellow or red upon using this ATB move. Square Enix has yet to fully explain this system if Tifa gets any status and power boosts while her hands are glowing in battle.
However, her triangle button attack changes depending on the glow color of her hands. If the glow is yellow, Tifa has access to Eight Extremities Fist. Meanwhile, the red glow gives the Beat Rush combo to Tifa.
Lastly, Aerith’s revealed moves are Wind magic and some supportive ATB moves. Her triangle attack is Tempest is an area-of-effect spell which has a long charge up. Meanwhile, her ATB moves are MP Drain, Sacred Circle, and Gaia’s Wrath.
Lastly, the Summon, Ifrit, makes an appearance in “Final Fantasy 7 Remake” and works extremely differently from the original game. Instead of just appearing for one huge attack, the Summon stays around and fights with the whole party until the fight is over.
Summon System
So far, the summons completely stops the ATB gauge from filling and will use up the Summon gauge as they stay longer in battle. Lastly, the Summon unleashes a devastating attack before leaving the battlefield when the Summon gauge runs out.
All of these characters can be seen again soon once the game releases on March 3, 2020.
