'Finding Dory' 2016: New Plot Details Released For 'Finding Nemo' Follow-Up As Pixar Focuses On More Sequels

It’s been over 11 years since Pixar’s “Finding Nemo” delighted audiences around the world, but in June 2016, fans will be able to dive back in with “Finding Dory,” the long-awaited sequel to the ocean adventure. This time, though, the story will not focus on Nemo, but on the fan-favorite character Dory, voiced by talk show host and comedian Ellen DeGeneres. Now, new details have emerged about the plot of the new movie.

“Finding Dory” will reportedly take place six months after the events of “Finding Nemo” where Dory is living among the Clown Fish and attending school with Nemo (Alexander Gould). When Dory accompanies Nemo on a field trip and sees Manta Rays migrating home, she begins to wonder about her own home. This leads Dory and Marlin (Albert Brooks, reprising his role) on a journey to find Dory’s parents at the California Marine Biology Institute, a huge sea life aquarium where Dory was raised. The movie will largely take place at the location where Diane Keaton and Eugene Levy are rumored to be voicing the roles of Dory’s parents, Collider reports.

“Finding Nemo” is Pixar’s fifth sequel, following “Toy Story 2” (1999), “Toy Story 3” (2010), “Cars 2” (2011) and “Monsters University” (2013). Pixar has increased the frequency of sequels of its popular franchises lately. After making only one sequel, “Toy Story 2,” in the studio’s first 10 films, three of the last four Pixar movies have been built off of existing worlds and characters. In addition, “Toy Story 4” is already in the works for a 2017 release. “The Incredibles 2” and “Cars 3” are also in development.

However, fans will be clamoring to see “Finding Dory” all the same. While Dory’s forgetful memory may make it hard for her to track down her family, it should make for a fun movie for families. “Finding Dory” is set to premiere June 27, 2016.
