An error by Copenhagen defender Jesper Gronkjaer in minute 17 resulted in Nicolas Ankelka pushing the ball up and releasing a strike that squeezed past Johan Wiland to put Chelsea ahead.

Later in the half, Fernando Torres found an opening on the left side and after a pair of moves took a shot, but it was deflected wide of the near post. Torres, who was booked for a yellow card, had another chance in minute 25 off a pass from Lampard, but again, couldn't convert.

Anelka had another chance in minute 39, but his shot sailed over the crossbar.

Jorgensen was booked for a yellow in the minute 6 for a foul on Torres.
